East Bierley 2nd XI can look back on a positive and encouraging season, finishing fifth in the league. The final position reflected a competitive campaign in which the side produced a number of strong performances, recording 11 victories and establishing themselves in the premier division once again.

One of the most pleasing features of the season was the regular involvement of four under-18 players in the squad. Their contribution brought energy and enthusiasm to the team, while the experience they gained from playing senior cricket should prove invaluable for both their own development and the club’s future.

The bowling attack was led superbly by opening bowlers George Bedford Walker and Steven Nicklin, who each took 30+ wickets. With the new ball, the pair regularly creating early breakthroughs and putting opponents under pressure early. A standout performance being George Bedford Walkers 5-24 against Bradford and Bingley where the opening bowler took 5 wickets in 9 balls.

Opening batsman Ross Monaghan and top order batsman Paul Martin both scored just short of 600 runs. Both batsmen scored three fifties and a hundred in the season, with Paul Martin’s 152 not out against Methley being the standout innings of 2026.

Overall, fifth place and 11 wins represent a solid return, particularly alongside the commitment to developing young players. With a talented group gaining experience and key performers continuing to deliver, the 2nd XI has a strong platform from which to build for next season.
