The first Saturday in 22 weeks without cricket at South View Road. Here is the 1st XI end of season review:
The 1st XI can look back on a season of two contrasting halves. After going without a win in the opening half of the campaign, the side responded impressively by winning six of their final 11 matches but ultimately finished just three points short of safety.
Survival remained within reach heading into the final fixture against Batley. Despite a seven-point deduction for a slow over rate against Hanging Heaton, the team kept their hopes alive with a 20-point victory over Birstall in the penultimate game of the season.
The final day required an 18-point victory over Batley, alongside Crossflatts failing to win, for the side to retain its place in division 1.
The players delivered their part of the equation in convincing fashion, bowling Batley out for 86 before chasing the target for the loss of just one wicket to secure a 20-point win.
However, Crossflatts secured victory in a rain-affected match against Lightcliffe, confirming the 1st XI’s relegation despite a strong finish to the campaign.
Overall, it was a season of fine margins and missed opportunities, but the resilience shown during the second half of the year provides encouragement for the 2027 season.
A standout performer throughout the season was the club’s 2026 overseas player, Asad Raza. His 78 wickets across all competitions including 9 five wicket hauls represented an outstanding achievement and a wicket tally unmatched by any other player in the Bradford League.
The focus now turns to responding positively next season, with the clear aim of securing an immediate return to Division One at the first attempt.
Player retentions and new recruits will be announced in due course.
